Kernel Timer

By Jeffrey Howard
All rights reserved unless noted otherwise

Drivers for use with the linux kernel sometimes need to make an event happen at regular intervals. One example would be pulsing a watchdog card every few seconds.

Platform

The linux kernel.

Solution

Write your driver using the add_timer and del_tmer routines. Ideally, write it as a module.
